Available Programs

Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Degree Completion Program

The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) is a 16-month, on-campus program. This program starts annually in January. The ABSN program option combines your previous bachelor’s degree with 60 credit hours of nursing courses, to equal 120 credit hours of study. Students who successfully complete the BSN program and pass the NCLEX-RN, may be seamlessly admitted into the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. On campus housing is available on a first-come, first-serve basis with other students enrolled in professional programs and graduate students.

What You’ll Do

Accelerated Master of Accountancy

The Accelerated Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program allows ۶ֱ undergraduate students to begin work in the MAcc program while completing their bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Qualified students may apply for admission to the Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) in Accountancy during their junior year (or after 60 credit hours). If accepted, students can take up to six credit hours of graduate coursework to apply toward their MAcc degree and earn combination credit for these hours at the undergraduate level.

Courses in this program are taught online in eight-week terms to increase flexibility.

What You’ll Learn

As a student in the Birth to Kindergarten program at GWU, you will learn about the development stages children experience from birth through age five. By studying the learning characteristics of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, you will acquire useful techniques and strategies to measure cognitive, social, emotional and communication development. Students may choose a licensure or non-licensure track. The 120-credit-hour program will be offered in an online format.

Study cybercrime, homeland security, terrorism and intelligence, while incorporating science and technology into investigative strategies.

۶ֱ provides a student-centered program of study based on current law enforcement, societal and political demands of criminal justice officers designed to meet the growing local, national, international law enforcement and homeland security concerns. The courses offered by the Department of Public Service will prepare students with a level of higher education that includes increased critical-thinking, ethical decision-making, and multi-cultural communication skills in addition to providing a solid foundation of technical and professional skills to address the needs of our evolving, complex society.

What You’ll Learn

Along with the University’s liberal arts interdisciplinary education, the Criminal Justice Administration curriculum develops a deep understanding of social, political, domestic and global criminal justice issues. In addition to a solid foundation of technical and professional skills, courses within the major improve critical-thinking, ethical decision-making and multicultural communication skills. Along with classroom instruction, the major requires field or internship experiences*, and study-abroad opportunities are available.

*Internships are required for Transitional Undergraduate students but are not a requirement for Degree Completion students.

Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration

The Criminal Justice Administration major requires 36 hours, with an overall requirement of 120 hours to complete the Bachelor of Science Degree. There is an opportunity for students to complete a minor in other related fields such as psychology, sociology, accounting, or science. Requirements include participation in field experiences or an internship in a criminal justice agency.

Develop the skills and knowledge to help you master the fundamentals of identifying and protecting against security threats and organizational risks, outsmart cybercriminals and be the frontline of support for governments and top organizations as a cyber security professional.

The curriculum is based on National Center for Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) guidelines for Cyber Defense programs. NCAE-C is managed by NSA (with help from FBI and other agencies). Most of the cybersecurity courses are designed to correspond to specific CompTIA (The Computing Technology Industry Association) certifications.

This program is offered in-person to our traditional undergraduate students as well as fully online to our degree completion (DCP) students.

What You’ll Learn

In addition to learning all the elements of cybersecurity knowledge recommended by the NSA, the world’s leader in securing computer networks, the ۶ֱ cybersecurity student will gain insight into the moral and ethical issues related to cyber-defense in relationship with a Christian liberal arts education.

Upon completion of the degree program, students will be able to:

  1. Analyze and resolve security issues in networks and computer systems to secure an IT infrastructure.
  2. Use cyber security, information assurance, and cyber/computer forensics software/tools.
  3. Develop policies and procedures to manage enterprise security risks.
  4. Evaluate and communicate the human role in security systems with an emphasis on ethics, social engineering vulnerabilities and training.

Your major in Elementary Education requires courses in art, math, music, physical education, social studies education, and science education in order to give you a comprehensive background in core academic subjects to better equip you to handle the many questions bound to come your way.

Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education

In addition to ۶ֱ University’s required general education and prerequisite courses, an additional 34 hours of credit is required for a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree. The professional education minor is required for undergraduate students seeking licensure at the K-12 level. A non-licensure track for qualifying elementary and middle grades candidates is available. 

The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education requires a minor in Professional Education. The minor includes 27 credit hours. The optional 14-credit-hour concentration in Exceptional Children (EC) prepares candidates to support diverse learners and become successful teachers of exceptional children.

Students will not be permitted to complete more than 50 percent of the minor until formally admitted to the Teacher Education Program. Students must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program a minimum of one full semester prior to the semester in which they student teach.

Bachelor of Science, Exceptional Child and Elementary Education

Dual Licensure Option Available On Campus and Online

The 20-credit-hour concentrationin Exceptional Children (EC), combined with the Elementary Education curriculum, prepares candidates to support diverse learners and become successful, dual-licensed teachers of exceptional children and elementary education.The curriculum integrates evidence-based practices that align with current legislative and ethical standards for special education, equipping candidates with the critical skills needed for inclusive classroom environments. In order to be recommended for licensure, candidates must successfully complete a dual student teaching experience (EDUC 450) and must pass all Elementary Education and Exceptional Children licensure exams.

Bachelor of Science, Exceptional Child Education

The Exceptional Children Concentration is also available for non-Elementary Education candidates. For candidates who are non-Elementary Education majors, the following courses are required in order to obtain the concentration: MATH 204, MATH 205, and the NC required Science of Reading literacy courses. This pathway enables individuals from a range of academic backgrounds to acquire specialized knowledge and skills necessary for supporting students with exceptionalities. By completing these targeted courses, candidates broaden their career prospects and increase their capacity to contribute to inclusive education initiatives, aligning with state and national standards for special education professionals.

College of Education Admission Requirements

The College of Education admission process is different than the ۶ֱ admission process. The College of Education interview is a secondary admission process specific to the College of Education.

For entrance into Teacher Education and for entrance into the Professional Semester, all candidates must pass the Praxis Core or meet the SAT/ACT requirements, fulfill the interview process, and undergo a background and drug test to continue into the junior year. Candidates will not be permitted to complete more than 50% of the major or the Professional Education minor until they are formally admitted into the Teacher Education Program. Admission to the Teacher Education Program must occur at least two full semesters prior to beginning the student teaching experience, enabling sufficient time to meet both academic and professional requirements. Maintaining a minimum grade of “C” in all teacher education courses is necessary for program progression and eligibility for licensure.

Student Teaching Experience

Studying Healthcare Management will equip you with a strong understanding of the always-evolving healthcare industry environment and the principles and ethics of business, while also offering opportunities for internship experiences, to prepare you for a career as a manager in the field.

Through your Healthcare Management studies, you will develop an understanding of the basic concepts of human relations management, organizational behavior, and operations management.

What You’ll Learn

As part of your degree, we will also equip you with a broad range of general business knowledge in functional areas such as accounting, marketing, and management.

Coupled with an emphasis on Christian business ethics and classroom knowledge of the business environment, the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management will offer you opportunities for reality-based education through an internship or practicum in the field.

Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management

In addition to the University’s required general education and prerequisites, the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management includes 36 credit hours in Broyhill Undergraduate School of Management core business courses, as well as 21 hours of Healthcare Management coursework.

Students in the Healthcare Management program will also be responsible for completing an internship or practicum inHealthcare Management.

Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management, Online Undergraduate Program

In addition to the University’s required general education classes, students in the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management program through the Online Undergraduate Program must complete major course requirements.

Healthcare Administration Minor

The Broyhill School of Management offers a minor in Healthcare Administration, which requires 15 credit hours of coursework. When the student’s primary major requires the same course as a course required by the minor, the duplication will be resolved by selecting substitute courses in the same field of study approved by the student’s advisor.

What You’ll Do

A degree in Healthcare Management offers the groundwork for business and health-related careers in hospitals, doctor offices and other healthcare organizations. Many of our recent graduates are also pursuing additional studies in the GWU Graduate College of Business and at other colleges and universities in the region.

A Bachelor of Science in Homeland Administration Security provides students with insight about domestic and international terrorism that threatens our nation daily. Interrelated topics include intelligence gathering, global threats, and terrorist groups, that dominate 21st Century law enforcement concerns on the local, state, and federal level, and are critically important to our communities and nation.

This curriculum provides a scholarly approach to the study of homeland security; and further, incorporates the real-world experience of federal agents, state law enforcement officers, local police and sheriffs, and the role of the military forces, that collectively, strive toward the prevention of future terrorist threats on the homeland and abroad. This program will provide students with knowledge, and a cutting-edge understanding of homeland security, terrorism, intelligence, and their interrelationship as an ever present national and international threat.

What You’ll Learn

The Homeland Security program provides insight into nature and complexity of current national and international public safety issues, and emphasizes the critical need for all law enforcement levels of communication and cooperation to address evolving transnational crime.

Outcomes

What You’ll Do

Graduates of this program can serve in local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Specific careers in Homeland Security have been established since 9/11 in the United States Secret Service, and other offices of the federal government specifically charged with the constant protection of the nation. The United States Department of Justice and North Carolina Department of Justice, as well as other states, offer career specialization in homeland security with the focus on domestic and international threats of terrorism. Graduates with this coursework have been hired in all levels of law enforcement, and have been accepted to graduate study programs at prestigious universities.

Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security Administration

In addition to the University’s required general education and prerequisites, the Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security Administration requires 36-37 credit hours of coursework, with an overall requirement of 120 credit hours. Several topics will include Homeland Security Administration, Criminal Law, Crime Scene Investigation, Terrorism and Intelligence, Cybercrime, and Organized Crime.
