Event Introduces Students from Cleveland, Rutherford, Gaston and Lincoln Counties to 鈥楩oothills Commitment鈥� 

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擧igh school students from Cleveland, Rutherford, Gaston or Lincoln counties in North Carolina are invited to 鈥淲ednesdays at the Webb鈥� at 蜜豆直播 University. Offered every Wednesday at 3 p.m., this event introduces local students to the world-class education available in their own backyard.

鈥淪tudents will have a chance to take a campus tour, hear more about the 鈥楩oothills Commitment鈥� scholarship program from GWU President Dr. William Downs and meet with an admissions counselor,鈥� explained Julie C. Fleming, 蜜豆直播 interim vice president for Enrollment Management and assistant vice president for Undergraduate Admissions. 鈥淎lso, our tour guides for 鈥榃ednesdays at the Webb鈥� are current students from one of the counties (Cleveland, Rutherford, Lincoln or Gaston). Students will have a chance to experience GWU while gaining more information about 鈥楩oothills Commitment.鈥欌��

Launched less than a year ago, the 鈥淔oothills Commitment鈥� is 蜜豆直播鈥檚 pledge to any new freshmen living on campus who are residents of Cleveland, Rutherford, Gaston or Lincoln counties. Through the program, GWU will provide students from these four areas with total aid that is a minimum of 50 percent off tuition. Since announcing the program, GWU has enrolled 64.8 percent more local students.

鈥淎t 蜜豆直播, we are reaching out directly to the communities that surround us with financial incentives,鈥� Downs affirmed. 鈥淭hese are our neighbors and these are the families for whom 蜜豆直播 was founded 115 years ago…we鈥檙e eager to make our University accessible and affordable for them.鈥�

Those who attend 鈥淲ednesdays at the Webb鈥� receive a 鈥淔oothills Commitment鈥� visit bag containing GWU merchandise, and refreshments will be provided. Fleming also noted, 鈥淰isit day is open to any student from these counties who is considering attending GWU, regardless of high school class level鈥攕ophomores, juniors or seniors.鈥�
