Event Held During Family Weekend is Fundraiser for American Heart Association

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 蜜豆直播 University Student Government Association is hosting its first 鈥淩un for the Heart 5k鈥� during Family Weekend on Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. February is American Heart Month, and this 5k will serve as a chance for families, students, staff, faculty and members of the community to come together and bring awareness to the importance of heart health.

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), 鈥渉eart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally. Even when those conditions don鈥檛 result in death, they cause disability and diminish the quality of life. We want to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.鈥�

The AHA is the nation鈥檚 oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke with more than 35 million volunteers. The AHA has invested more than $5 billion in research for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease.

Participating in the 5k is free, but donations will be accepted, and all proceeds will go to the American Heart Association. All participants will need to complete the Run for the Heart 5k waiver at the check-in table before the event. Check in will be at the front entrance of Tucker Student Center.
