Dr. Robert Bass

Dr. Bass joined the �۶�ֱ�� faculty in 1995 as an Associate Professor of Mathematics. In years 1997 – 2007 he served as the chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences. His published mathematics research has concerned integral representations of univalent functions. He earned the Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1988 under the direction of John Pfaltzgraff and Joseph Cima.

Dr. Oscar Gonzalez

Dr. Gonzalez is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at �۶�ֱ�� University, where he serves as the faculty lead for the Cybersecurity Program. Since joining the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences in 2023, he has taught a wide range of Computer Science and Cybersecurity courses, from foundational programming and computer technology concepts to advanced cybersecurity topics. His career in higher education teaching began in 2001, giving him more than two decades of experience in college-level instruction.

In addition to his academic career, Dr. Gonzalez has about ten years of professional experience in the banking industry. This industry background provides valuable real-world perspectives that he integrates into his teaching and cybersecurity curriculum.

Dr. Gonzalez has been actively involved in cybersecurity since 2014, when he served as a Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) for the National Science Foundation-funded Advanced Cybersecurity Education (ACE) Consortium, representing the state of North Carolina, while serving as the Cyber Crime Program Lead at South Piedmont Community College in Monroe, North Carolina. Through this role, he contributed to advancing cybersecurity education and workforce development across the state.

He earned a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Information Technology from Middle Georgia State University. His doctoral research, Quantum-Resistant Encryption: A Quantitative Analysis of Organizational Cybersecurity Preparedness, examined organizational readiness for the transition to post-quantum cryptography. He also holds a Master of Science in Management Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Florida Atlantic University.

Dr. Gonzalez’s professional interests include cybersecurity, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and preparing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. Outside of academia, he enjoys spending time with his family and dog, traveling, participating in outdoor activities, and attending church.

Tammy Hoyle

Mrs. Hoyle joined the �۶�ֱ�� faculty in 1990. She is a 1988 Graduate of �۶�ֱ�� with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education. She received a Master of Arts degree from Wake Forest University in 1990. She teaches general education math courses in the Traditional Undergraduate program as well as the Degree Completion Program. Mrs. Hoyle also teaches Number Theory, Geometry, and Discrete Mathematics. Mrs. Hoyle lives in Boiling Springs with her husband, John, and has a son, Tanner. She and her family enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, and various church activities.

Dr. Mirek Mystkowski

Dr. Mirek Mystkowski received his M.S. in Physics from University of Wroclaw in 1992. A year later he started graduate studies at the University of Missouri. He received Ph. D. in Mathematics in 1997 and M.S. in Computer Science in 1999. His research work focused on developing novel methods for landmine detection. Since 2002 he has been teaching Computer Science and Mathematics at �۶�ֱ�� University. Besides his academic work, he enjoys variety of activities including hiking, bird watching, and reading science fiction novels.

Dr. Olga Poliakova

Dr. Olga Poliakova joined the �۶�ֱ�� faculty in 2000. She earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in 1998 under the direction of Boris Schein. Her dissertation focused on free inverse semigroups. She received her MS in Applied Mathematics from Moscow State University, Russia, in 1990. Her thesis research focused on the area of k-valued logics. She is a faculty adviser for the Math Club SIGMA. She likes hiking, traveling, reading, and playing guitar.

Amy Revis

Amy Revis graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a BA in Journalism. She has been with GWU since spring of 2018 and came from Spindale Elementary where she was a teaching assistant and student support manager. She previously operated WeeRuns Inc. and was managing editor of The Daily Courier.

Dr. Jason Willis

Jason has an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and a M.A. in Mathematics Education from Appalachian State University. Before coming to �۶�ֱ��, Jason worked as a high school mathematics teacher and technology specialist. Jason is a member of Double Shoals Baptist Church in Shelby and serves on the advisory board for the Pickleball Association of Cleveland County. When not at �۶�ֱ��, Jason enjoys playing pickleball and spending time with his wife, family, and friends.
